Comfortis Active Ingredient
The active ingredient in Comfortis flea control formula is called Spinosad. Spinosad has two different chemical components called spinosyn A and spinosyn D. Spinosad is classified as a new group of insecticides that has recently been registered by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) as an environmentally conscious way to control many different insect populations. The active component in Spinosad is actually derived from a rare actinomycete bacterium that was first discovered in the soil of a Caribbean Island. This active component has never again been found in nature, and the bacterium that contains it was named Saccharopolyspora spinosa. The main advantage of Spinosad is that it combines the effectiveness of a synthetic insecticide with the benefits associated with a biological pest control organism. Spinosad kills fleas by causing agitation of a flea’s central nervous system, which causes death approximately 1 to 2 days after the flea ingests the substance. As of right now, Spinosad is highly valued in resistance management programs, since it has a very unique mode of action against insects.

Comfortis Customer Reviews And Ratings
Most customer reviews about Comfortis cite it as being a very effective flea control product for dogs. However, the side effects of the product did cause concern among some consumers. Since extreme lethargy can be a side effect of Comfortis, this can cause dogs to become limp and unresponsive approximately two to four hours after the formula is ingested. This can be a very scary experience to witness, though it is very important to be familiar with all possible side effects before using this product for any pet. Comfortis is a systemic formula, and because of that, some pet owners seem to be initially reluctant to try it on their pets.
